Elon Musk on Wednesday warned Democrats who want to investigate alleged corruption and his role in the U.S. government if they win control of Congress next month. Writing on X, the platform he owns, in response to a Politico article about Democratic plans to examine his activities after the midterm elections, Musk said, “Live by the sword, die by the sword,” as attributed to his post.
Musk also wrote that people who confront him should expect him to identify those directing them and pursue those figures. Influential Democrat Zoe Lofgren was quoted in Politico’s report as calling the situation, “The sheer number of conflicts of interest are astounding,” with Lofgren as the speaker.
Musk, described as the United States’ first trillionaire, is a top financial contributor to Trump’s Republican Party, a frequent adviser to the president and a major recipient of government contracts through SpaceX. He also controls Tesla. After helping bankroll Trump’s return in the 2024 election, he led a controversial spending-reduction project that pushed nearly 300,000 employees out of work.
Republicans currently control the Senate and House of Representatives, although Democrats are forecast to win at least the lower chamber on November 3. That result would put Democrats in charge of powerful investigative committees with power to compel testimony, making Musk a prime target.
