Trump indicted by New York grand jury

A grand jury in New York City voted Thursday to indict Donald Trump, making him the first former president to face criminal charges in the United States.

The $130,000 in payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the final weeks of the 2016 presidential campaign led to the historic indictment. Trump has refuted Daniels’s claim that she had sex with him while they were married in 2006. Trump had listed the payout reimbursement as a legal expense.

Trump, who is based at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, responded with a venomous statement criticizing Bragg and the protracted hush money investigation.

Trump is reportedly scheduled to be arraigned on criminal charges before a judge in New York City sometime next week.
