Trump rallies in Florida as Michigan Democrats clash ahead of midterms

President Donald Trump rallied in Daytona Beach, Florida, late Friday to support Republican candidates, while Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and former primary rival Rep. Haley Stevens clashed over his comments about Israel.

Trump plans to visit Iowa and Kansas on Sunday, after canceling and then reinstating rallies in both states, where Senate races are tight. He told the Daytona Beach crowd that people in the two states had asked him to return to help Republicans win.

In Michigan, Stevens said she would campaign with El-Sayed but wanted him to apologize for his comments about Israel and condemn an outside PAC ad she called antisemitic. She also asked him to remove his own ad featuring Tucker Carlson. El-Sayed said Stevens was focused on their past primary rather than defeating Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers and addressing living costs.

The former rivals are expected to appear together at an event in Detroit with South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn, in one of their few joint appearances since the primary.

In Alaska, the Justice Department asked a federal judge Friday to require officials to segregate ballots ranking Senate candidate Daniel J. Sullivan, who shares the Republican incumbent’s first and last name. Alaska election officials opposed the request, arguing that segregating the votes would violate ballot secrecy requirements.
