According to reports, President-elect Donald Trump will swiftly reshape the federal government to his will and eliminate the Biden administration’s footprint when he takes office on Monday by signing up to 200 executive acts.
The Trump administration plans to “fully unleash” Alaska’s energy assets and reverse several of President Joe Biden’s environmental measures in the state. Additionally, he will terminate clean energy initiatives including offshore wind leases and electric vehicle programs, as well as withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement once more.
“We are going to give the American people the greatest first day, the most significant first week, and the most remarkable first 100 days of any presidency in American history because they have trusted us,” he said.
Trump signed a number of orders at Capital One Arena, including:
- Revoking 78 executive actions of the previous administration, including directives to rebuild the federal government’s refugee program and gradually end the Justice Department’s use of private prisons
- Issuing “an immediate regulation freeze” and “a temporary hiring freeze” until Republicans have full control of the government
- Pausing the hiring of “any new IRS agents”
- Requiring “federal workers to return to the office in person”
- Signing “a presidential memorandum directing every member of my cabinet to … defeat inflation and bring down the cost of everyday life”
- Withdrawing from the Paris climate treaty
- Directing the federal government to preserve free speech and avoid political persecutions of prior administrations
Back at the White House, Trump pardoned approximately 1,500 of his supporters who were charged in connection with Jan. 6. He also commuted the sentences of 14 members of the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers militia, the majority of whom were convicted of seditious conspiracy.
