The One America New Network (sometimes referred to a One America News) is a paid-for television news channel based in the United States of America. The channel broadcasts for 24 hours a day and is available on selected satellite TV providers. One America News Network Live Streams are also available on many different platforms.

OAN Background

The One America News Network was formed back in 2013 by Herring Networks Inc. President Charles Herring. On his reasons for starting the channel, he cited the fact that those with left-leaning or liberal views had several places from which to receive their news, whereas those with more right-leaning views only had FOX news.

The channel was started as a partnership with The Washington Times newspaper and is headquartered in San Diego, with subsidiary news desks in Washington D.C. and New York City. OAN has grown to employ over 150 members of staff and as of 2019, it’s transmitted to over 35 million homes through providers such as DirecTV, Verizon, U-Verse and Prism TV.

One America News Network is commonly abbreviated to either OAN or OANN with the former used on television, and the latter is used for the channel’s social media handles.

OAN Programming

When OAN was launched, one of the differentiating factors (which was heavily publicized at the time) was its lack of political opinion and commentary shows. Instead the channel places a great deal of its focus on straight news reporting.

As time has progressed there has been a steady introduction of more opinionated shows such as The Daily Ledger hosted by Graham Ledger, and The Tipping Point hosted by Liz Wheeler.

However, this news network has stayed true to its original pledge to remain heavily focused on news reporting. In fact, roughly 18 hours of every 24 hours of programming are dedicated to news broadcasts.

OAN Strategy

OAN, as per its pledge, stays true to its right-leaning audience. It’s widely described as a pro-Trump channel. The tactic to focus heavily on positive news story on the president has helped them win an increasing share of the television news audience. The comScore set-top-box viewership data revealed that the One America News Network was the fourth-most-watched news channel in 2019, despite only launching a few years prior.

In fact, it has been revealed that President Trump himself watches the network, often citing their reporting in key press briefings and his own personal tweets. It’s expected that OAN will continue to increase its viewership during the 2020 Presidential Campaign, with several of Donald Trump’s rallies set to be televised live.

The move has proved popular with several critics who consume their news on the move. They have praised the channel for it’s fair and unbiased news reporting.

Don Kaplan of the New York Times has been quoted as saying, “it’s by far one of the most fair news outlets around, serving up a daily diet of ad-free, non-ideological, nonstop news—without smirking, snarky anchors or much fanfare.” Such impartiality is likely to help the channel to continue to win new audience members by sticking to the facts.
